POTEAU–Andrew J. “Buddy” Rogers, 88, of Poteau passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at his home in Poteau. He was born Aug. 20, 1923 in Bokoshe to Burl & Mattie (Tolbert) Rogers. He was a pot ash miner and served in the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton, along with being a member of the First Baptist Church of Poteau.
Services are Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Jim Cook and Rev. Phil McGehee officiating. Interment will follow at Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Rogers; grandson, Michael Hughie; great grandson, Buddy Hughie; sisters, Bernice Conti, Marie McCafferty, Lila Davis and Jackie Restine.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Dimple; daughters, Joyce and Jack Barbaree of Panama, Deloris Hughie of Poteau; grandchildren, Julie Hughie Hicks, Tonia Rogers, Denise and Roger Jones, Robert Meier, Stephanie and Jessie Puentez, Jon Rogers, Mattie Rogers and Zachary Rogers; great grandchildren, Dennis Hicks, Jenny Claiborn, Waylon Parrott, Vance Parrott, Tyler Hayes, Dustin Hayes, Cassie Hayes, Garrett Rogers, Jayton Toros, Kaylee Puentez, McKinzie Puentez, Logan Rogers and Alexis Hughie.
Pallbearers are Dennis Hicks, Dustin Hayes, Waylon Parrott, Vance Parrott, Jeremy Oliver, Randy Mc Kinney and Phil Partain. Honorary pallbearers aree Dr. Bill Willis, Phillip Streetman, Greg Claiborn, Johnny Bell, David Black, Doug, Joe and Charles Henderson, and R.D. Bryant.
The family will be at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. to visit with relatives and friends.
