Even though they are barely into the district schedule, several county teams have big games tonight.
After losing its district opener and second straight game, Poteau ventures to Tulsa tonight to face a Webster team in a battle of district foes looking for their first district win. The Pirates lost their district opener last week to Hilldale and face an athletic Webster team.
A loss for Poteau would make a trip to the playoffs a difficult one for the Pirates while a win would keep them in the running.
Defending district champion Spiro needs a win bad tonight as the Bulldogs host Eufaula. Spiro has lost three straight and fell on the road at Idabel last week. Eufaula won its first game and district opener last week over Atoka. The loss to Idabel could be difficult to overcome as the Bulldogs still have the district’s toughest teams to play.
Pocola will look to get back on track tonight when the Indians travel to Wilburton in a key 2A-6 matchup. The Indians fell in their district opener to Vian last week, snapping a seven-game winning streak while Wilburton defeated Panama in its district opener to improve to 2-2. Both teams are expected to be in the mix for a playoff spot, making this one even more important.
Talihina opens district play tonight with a home game against Panama. The Tigers are 4-0 overall while their county opponents are still looking for their first win.
It will be extra tough on Heavener tonight. The Wolves travel to face sixth-ranked Vian and coach John Thompson’s brother, Mark, passed away Thursday morning. The Wolves are 1-3 overall and lost their district opener to Hartshorne last week, 47-25, while Vian dominated Pocola, 75-6.
Arkoma is hosting Eagle Point in a non-district contest while Bokoshe will look to make it two straight wins when the Tigers travel to Claremore Christian in a district game tonight to face the winless Warriors.
