POTEAU–The Leflore County Office of Emergency Management, Leflore County Medical Reserve Corps, and the Poteau Wal-Mart Supercenter are hosting the first Leflore County Emergency Management Association’s “Family Health and Safety Fair and Touch-A-Truck Event” Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot located at 3108 N Broadway in Poteau.
The Family Health and Safety Fair section will offer information and activities for individuals and families on topics such as preparing for emergencies and disasters, and health topics for women and children. Area law enforcement officials along with the Leflore County Youth Services will have Child ID kits and information about child abduction, and Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) will bring motorcycles for the kids to sit on along with information about preventing child abuse.
There will also be lots of other activities for children including arts and crafts and games as well as displays of emergency kits and supplies.
With the Touch-A-Truck event, adults and children of all ages will have an opportunity to look at, sit in or climb on a variety of large trucks, construction equipment, farm equipment, command vehicles, and various emergency vehicles including fire trucks and ambulances. There will also be live demonstrations of the Jaws-of-Life, Bunker Gear Races for Fireman, as well as many other emergency skills demonstrations throughout the day.
There will be free hot dogs, drinks and a variety of other food and snacks for everyone who attends. Door prizes will also be given away throughout the day.
Admission is free, however donations will be accepted for some activities. All donations will go to benefit the Leflore County Emergency Management Association and their efforts to better prepare Leflore county and its citizens.
