Week 2 of the 2011 football season is now in the books and four county teams remained undefeated after Friday’s games.
Arkoma, Pocola, Poteau and Talihina all won Friday to go 2-0 on the season.
Arkoma, Pocola and Poteau all continued their offensive firepower in big wins while Talihina built an early lead and held on to win its 33rd-straight regular season game.
Heavener won its first game with a 21-6 win over Central while Spiro lost its first game while Panama and Bokoshe both lost to go 0-2.
Likewise, Pocola used its speed to fly past Haileyville, 35-10, and remain undefeated. The Indians will get their first test of the season next week at Quinton.
Poteau’s offense continued to look like a video game and the defense turned in an outstanding performance in a 42-7 win at Idabel.
Last week, it took the Pirates two plays to score. This week, Poteau scored even before its offense took the field as Jesse Woodson returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Wilson Klutts threw four touchdown passes while Jace Pitchford caught two and also threw one late to Dakota Clark for the Pirates’ last score.
Blake Johnson and Jarrett Lowrimore also had touchdown receptions off passes from Klutts. Idabel did not score until the final seconds and there was some question whether it was actually a touchdown.
Poteau closes out its non-district schedule next Friday at home against Gravette, Ark.
Talihina built an 18-8 lead at halftime at Gore before hanging on in the second half to take an 18-14 win over the Pirates.
Spiro lost its first game of the season, 32-16, at Muldrow.
Panama dropped to 0-2 with a 41-9 loss to Roland in the Razorbacks’ home opener while Midway won its first game and kept Bokoshe winless with a 58-8 victory.
