WISTER–It wasn’t the way Wister expected it to be, but the Wildcats are back in the state tournament once again.
The defending Class 2A state champions came out of the losers bracket to win two games and make another reservation for the upcoming state tournament.
After losing to county foe Cameron in the opening game of the regional tournament here Thursday, Wister had to come back and defeat Wright City, 5-4, and then down Cameron, 13-4.
Unlike the opener against Cameron when the Yellow Jackets built a big lead, Wister jumped on top early in the final game, 5-0, capped off by a three-run blast by Tyler Gibson, and the Wildcats slowly built the lead.
Caleb Hill also hit a three-run shot to up the lead to 8-0. Cameron cut the lead to 8-4 after a two-run shot by Dylan Poor, but that was as close as the Jackets could come.
