SPIRO–Alva “Willie” Bowers, 80, of Spiro, passed away Oct. 4, 2011 in Fort Smith. He was born May 7, 1931, in Kingfisher to Alva Franklin and Thelma Elizabeth (Prickett), was a lifetime member of VFW Post #4884, a Navy and Army veteran and was a Pentecostal preacher for 10 years.
Graveside services are Friday at 11 a.m. at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with Rev. Clint Beasley and Rev. Richard Hurst officiating. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
He is survived by four daughters, Tina Sellers of Sapulpa, Marilyn Scrivener and husband, Jimmy of Keota, Kim Claunts and husband, Harvey of Jay and Liz Cole and husband, Dale of Sapulpa; a son, Michael Bowers of Fort Smith; a sister, Juanita Pierce of Eufaula; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Joyce Marie Dennis and Nora Childress; one son, Matthew Eugene Bowers; two sisters, Marie Coker, Elaine Sanders; and two brothers, Jimmy and Albert Bowers.
