Arkoma stayed perfect Friday while Poteau and Spiro won key district games in week 6 football action.
Arkoma, the only county team undefeated after Talihina fell at Pocola, improved to 6-0 overall and defeated perennial district power Maud, 62-14, Friday in the Mustangs’ biggest win of the season.
The Mustangs are now in control of the district with big games coming up the next two weeks with Midway and Webbers Falls. Arkoma led 34-0 in halftime in picking up the big win on the road.
Poteau snapped a three-game losing streak with a dominating 24-0 win at home over Stilwell. The Pirates had first-half touchdowns receptions from Kendrick Hardaway and Dylan Stone and a scoring run from Michael Reynolds to lead 21-0 at the half. Blake Williams added a 30-yard field goal in the second half for the only score in the final two quarters.
The Pirates are now 3-3 overall and 1-2 in district play. Poteau plays at co-district leader Sallisaw on Thursday.
Spiro also snagged a big win over a struggling Hugo team, winning 30-12 on the road to improve to 3-3 and 2-1. The Bulldogs also have a huge game on Friday when they host undefeated Seminole. The Chieftains are the only team in the district undefeated in district play after three weeks, along with the only team to defeat Spiro in district play last year.
Heavener fell behind 14-0 early against Wilburton, cut the margin to 14-7, but could get no closer as the Wolves fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in district play while the Diggers improve to 4-2 and 3-0. Heavener travels to Talihina Friday.
Panama’s struggles continued as the Razorbacks fell to Hartshorne, 59-7. Panama must visit Vian Friday.
Bokoshe fell at home to previously winless Prue, 34-0.
