Another important week for county teams as they enter week 3 of district play for most schools.
If Poteau is going to make a run at making the playoffs, the Pirates have a must-win game Friday at home against Stilwell.
The Pirates have lost their first two district games, at home to Hilldale and last week’s disappointing loss to previously winless Webster.
Stilwell is 1-1 in district play after edging Fort Gibson, 26-20 in overtime, last week.
With Poteau still having district heavyweights Sallisaw and Broken Bow on the schedule, the Pirates must win over Stilwell to stay in the playoff hunt.
Overall, Sallisaw and Hilldale are the only undefeated teams in istrict play.
In 3A-4, the standings are a mess. Seminole is the only undefeated team in district play after two weeks while every other team aside from Hugo, is 1-1.
Spiro snapped a three-game losing streak and overcame the disappointing loss to Idabel in the district opener, to down Eufaula, 34-19 last week.
The Bulldogs travel to Hugo on Friday to play the only winless team in the district. Spiro still has upcoming games against Seminole, Stigler, Atoka and Valliant so a win on Friday is key to the Bulldogs’ playoff hopes.
In 2A-6, Talihina travels to Pocola in the biggest game of the week in district play. The Tigers opened district play with a 45-10 win over Panama last week while Pocola fell on the road to Wilburton, 14-13.
Pocola has lost its first two district games and will have to defeat either Talihina or Hartshorne to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. Talihina is still perfect overall, but has the meat of its schedule coming up with games remaining against Heavener, Hartshorne, Wilburton and Vian.
Heavener hopes to stay alive for a district spot with a home game against Wilburton. The Wolves have played two of the teams still perfect in district play in Hartshorne and Vian and need a win over the Diggers to remain in the playoff hunt.
Panama hosts a hot Hartshorne team looking for its first win of the season. The Miners have scored over 40 points the last two weeks with wins over Heavener and a non-district victory over Tishomingo last week.
Vian travels to Lincoln Christian Friday in a non-district matchup of top 10 teams.
Arkoma stayed perfect overall last week with a non-district win over Eagle Point. The Mustangs travel to perennial power Maud this week. Maud lost its first district game in several years last week in a double overtime loss to Bluejacket.
Bokoshe is home against winless Prue on Friday.
