Don’t miss Fall Saturdays

I finally got to attend the Big Foot Festival down in Honobia. If you have never been, this is a must do. Put it on your bucket list. There was plenty of food, arts and craft booths, storytelling, and people watching.
I had my picture taken with big foot. This big foot could have been a relative of “Chewy” from Star Wars. I spoke with a lady that had photographs of baby and adult big foot, or is it big feet? I saw photographs of different sightings. If you think the people down there are not totally serious about these sightings you are mistaken.
From my stand point I think it is an ingenious marketing tool. People were there from all over. One of the food stands was actually telling a tall tale about their big foot toes they sold. I believe it was some sort of pork. They tried to make you believe that they cut them off of big foot and they regenerated each day.
This was funny! I took a picture of previous Ms Big Foot Queens. I am still not sure if they were the real ones or a group that just attended. Either way it was great!
I was afraid that the record breaking heat would affect our fall foliage this year. We took a drive over the Talimena National Scenic Byway on Saturday and it was quite green. I saw many maple trees that lined the roadway with green leaves. You can still see some brown leaves but many of them have fallen off the trees. I think we will still see travel this fall to look at the scenery. People are ready to get out and move around.
This coming Saturday will be Thor’s Hammer. This is a 5K and a 10K run at the Heavener Runestone Historical Site and Park. You can register the day of the run for $20 and the proceeds go to supporting the operation of the park. Don’t worry if you are not a runner, I am not either. I will be walking so if you want to get out come join me for a great cause! Who knows maybe we will spot Big Foot!
Then on Oct. 15th there will be the second annual Wister Lake Boo Run. The proceeds will go to the Wister Library to help with the move to the new building. This will be interesting there is a best costume to the finish line as well as the fastest. For info call 918-655-7289.
October the 21 and 22nd is approaching fast for the Poteau Balloonfest! I can’t wait to see the monster trucks that will be arriving this year. It will be great to have the festival closer to town. Call Poteau Chamber for tickets and information 918-647-9178.
Until next week…
