POCOLA–Edna Martha Smith, 89, of Pocola, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 in Fort Smith. She was born May 27, 1922 in Pocola to James T. & Mary Frances (Nolan) Gregory and was retired from Pocola Public Schools after serving as secretary for 28 years.
She also worked at Motive Parts Warehouse and married to her husband, Josh, for 65 years, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 76 years and taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pocola with Rev. Thomas Corrigan and Mike Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold “Josh” Smith; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Rosa Smith; sisters, Beatrice Parnell, Faye and hussband, Gerald Lairamore; brother, Erbby Gregory; brothers-in-law, Bill Smith and Doyle Smith; and granddaughter in law, Shonda Smith.
Survivors include her sons Phil Smith and wife Terry and Greg Smith, all of Pocola; grandchildren, Phillip Jason Smith of Caulksville, Ark., Amber and Brad Wertz of Jackson, Miss., Brandi and Jody Brogan and Dallas Smith of Alma; seven great grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Jayleigh Smith, Branson Brogan, Maggie Brogan, Weston Wertz, Autumn Wertz and Emalyn Wertz.
Pallbearers are Jason Smith, Brad Wertz, Jody Brogan, Dallas Smith, Ronnie Smith Sr. and Randy Lairamore. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School class.
The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. to visit with relatives and friends.
