I know, I know! I can hear the Liberals screaming “Fair and Balanced my foot!” These are the people that have never watched a full one-hour program on the channel, and think the mere mention of anything conservative is to be rejected.
They are in the minority. I have talked with people who have the channel blocked on their TV so they do not even have to see a glimpse of it when scrolling through the channels. These people will argue that something never happened because they did not see it on CNN or MSNBC.
On the other hand, Conservatives who are open minded and listen to both sides of an issue rely on FOX and if there is something they do not agree with simply change the channel. They are in the vast majority and most consider themselves pretty well informed. They will switch to another network to hear an opposing view and decide for themselves.
The first 24 hour television news in the United States , CNN (Cable News Network), was launched by Ted Turner in 1980, decidedly left leaning, and was part of the regular cable programming package.
Rupert Murdoch recognized a void in presenting news and created the Fox News Channel with a focus on conservative news, but included commentators and guests from the Democratic side also.
When FOX came on line in 1996 it was a “premium” channel and subscribers had to pay extra to get it in their homes. Despite the 16 year head start, and the extra cost to viewers, FOX overtook CNN in viewership only 5 ½ years later and has kept that lead, often attracting more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined according to the Nielson ratings.
Congratulations to FOX NEWS CHANNEL for their successful 15 year run and best wishes in the future.
