As we sit here wondering if Oregon is wearing pajamas instead of football jerseys, we ponder one of the strange traits of football fans everywhere, not just LeFlore County.
Over the years, once we get to the middle of the season attendance either goes way up for a team, or way down, depending on how a particular team is doing. We think these new or lost fans are of the fickle variety.
Fickle fans are even worse than the fans who go to the game and never watch what is going on, just talk or text all night. Please notice, originally I put female fans instead of fans. That was a stupid comment and has been changed so I apologize for that.
If you are there for the first game, you should be there at the end of the season, even if your team couldn’t beat the School for the Blind and Lame. Same goes for those who don’t show up until your team is winning. Either go all the time or don’t go at all.
No bandwagoning. As if that is a word.
Enough of the commentary. Let’s get on with the picks. We were 5-2 last week, losing the Poteau game AGAIN along with the erroneous pick of beating Pocola to down the Diggers at Wilburville.
Overall, 30-8 on the season.
STILWELL AT POTEAU—Tough pick? Could be, but we remain sold on Poteau and like the Pirates at home Friday, even though they have lost three straight. Poteau lost a game it shouldn’t have last week, but stuff happens. Stilwell won its first district game last week. Two streaks will be snapped Friday. POTEAU 28, STILWELL 21.
SPIRO AT HUGO—Spiro snapped its three-game losing streak last week with a win over Hugo. The Bulldogs make the long trek down to a one-win Hugo team, which gave up over 70 points earlier in the year to Vian. That’s a Class 3A team giving up 70 plus to a 2A team. A good night for the Bulldogs before hitting the meat of its district schedule. SPIRO 28, HUGO 7.
TALIHINA AT POCOLA—Got to see the Tigers for the first time last week. Maybe not as physically impressive as in years past, but all Talihina does is win. Should be a good game and one which will be important for the district standings. Pocola has some starters back from the injured list, but we are going with Talihina in what should be a heck of a game. TALIHINA 21, POCOLA 14.
WILBURTON AT HEAVENER—Wilburton is 2-0 in district play. Heavener is 0-2. Easy pick, right? Uh, no. Look at the district opponents. Wilburton has defeated Panama and Pocola, by one point at home. Heavener has lost to Vian and Hartshorne. Been a rough week for the Wolfies and coach John Thompson. Our upset special. HEAVENER 21, WILBURTON 20.
HARTSHORNE AT PANAMA—Hartshorne has too many weapons for the young Razorbacks. Panama has improved since the first of the year, but it will be tough to tell against the Miners. HARTSHORNE 35, PANAMA 10.
ARKOMA AT MAUD—Maud lost its first district game in several years last week to Bluejacket. Two weeks ago, Arkoma thumped Bluejacket. Tough call. If it was at Arkoma, we would go for the Mustangs. But with the game at Maud, we have to go with MAUD 42, ARKOMA 35.
PRUE AT BOKOSHE—The toughest call of the week. Seriously. Prue is winless. Bokoshe has one win. We’d like to abstain on this one as it looks like one of those picks which will go the other way, just to spite us. In hopes of Bokoshe getting the “W”, we will go with PRUE 28, BOKOSHE 24.
