The annual Let’s Play Football on Thursday Night Week so everybody will be tired at work on Friday is here.
Because of the state teacher’s meet, all the county schools play on Thursday this week. Memo to all athletic directors: No Thursday games and start the games at 7 p.m. next year. Last week, Poteau played at Sallisaw on Thursday and the game ended at roughly 11 p.m.
After the disaster that was the week 6 picks, we shook off the disappointment, the near depression and cough-casing phlegm to make a stand in week 7.
Howzabout 5-1 men, women and little ones? Nearly perfect. Naturally, the only loss was the Heavener pick since we miss that one pretty much every week. We picked Talihina to beat the Wolfies and missed that one badly.
But we pledge to not miss the Heavener game this week since we are on a roll. Plus the Wolves are off this week.
To both our Arkoma fans, hopefully we are back in your good graces since we coyly picked the Mustangs to win last week and they edged Midway by half a hundred.
Overall, 36-12. That is plus 24!
As a bonus this week, we will pick the World Series winner and will not make any snide comments about Card manager Tony Larussa’s hair, which does not seem to have changed since the disco days.
Cardinals in six. There.
Enough complaining and baseball. Let’s pick some county football games.
BROKEN BOW AT POTEAU—a must win game for Poteau. The Pirates are 1-3 in district play and must sweep their final three games to make the playoffs. Broken Bow is banged up, but is still 3-1 in district play with its only loss to Hilldale. If Poteau plays like it did the first half of last week, a good shot at a Pirate win. Poteau fights off elimination. Serious? Yes. POTEAU 28, BROKEN BOW 24.
SPIRO AT VALLIANT—We’re going with the Bulldogs on this one. Eh, but which one? Spiro is coming off a loss to Seminole. Both teams fighting for a playoff berth. Guess we’ll have to go with the home canines. VALLIANT 35, SPIRO 28.
PANAMA AT POCOLA—Pocola fighting for a playoff spot. Panama fighting for its first win. Pocola better than the Razorbacks. POCOLA 28, PANAMA 7.
TALIHINA AT WILBURTON—Just two weeks ago, Talihina was undefeated and appeared headed toward another playoff berth. That was before losses to Pocola and Heavener. Tigers are entering the tough part of their district with games against Wilburton, Hartshorne and Vian, all undefeated in district play. Talihina has to knock off at least one of those three. TALIHINA 21, WILBURTON 20.
ARKOMA AT WEBBERS FALLS—A game for all the marbles, or at least the district championship. Both teams undefeated in district play. Webbers Falls won 52-30 last year. But that was last year. ARKOMA 42, WEBBERS FALLS 38.
BLUEJACKET AT BOKOSHE—Two struggling teams. Bokoshe looking for its first district win while Bluejacket has an outside shot at making the playoffs. BLUEJACKET 42, BOKOSHE 21.
