We would rather not talk, think or write about last week’s picks.
Instead, how about those presidential candidates? Is it a law all the candidates have to be dorks? Or, what a World Series? Gosh, we sure are having some wacky weather!
And then…never mind. We have always heard it is best to admit when there is a problem. And yes, we had a problem in our picks last week.
All week, we have refused to think or talk about last week. It was like a sticker in the right buttock, not that we have ever had one. That’s sticker in the rear. We do, of course, have a right buttock (a rather shapely one at that).
We tried to be brilliant. We tried to live life on the edge. We tried to shock the world, or at least the LeFlore County football community. We tried, but stunk badly.
Hit an all-time low, finishing 3-3. That dropped the overall mark to 39-15.
Missed the Pocola and Panama game, as did 99.9 percent of the people, Talihina and Wilburton and the Arkoma and Webbers Falls game, but only by some 50 points.
As always, we will try to do better this week.
POTEAU AT FORT GIBSON—Poteau surprised Broken Bow to stay alive for a playoff spot. This is a scary game for the Pirates after the big win last week. Aside from the win at Idabel, Poteau has struggled a bit on the road. Both teams 2-3 in district play and the Tigers have almost upset Hilldale and Sallisaw. To reach the playoffs, Poteau must win. POTEAU 28, FORT GIBSON 24.
ATOKA AT SPIRO—Like Poteau, Spiro must win out to even have a chance of making the playoffs. This week shouldn’t be a problem, but Stigler next week could be a major one. Bulldogs gave up 61 points last week. Wampus Cats still have the coolest nickname for any Oklahoma school, but won’t help. SPIRO 35, ATOKA 21.
HEAVENER AT PANAMA—The most important game to be played in the county tonight will be played at…Panama? Yes. It involves Heavener and Panama? You betcha. Honest, even though the two teams have a combined three wins this year. Panama snapped its 17-game losing streak last week with the upset of Pocola. Heavener was off. Winner has a good shot of making the playoffs. Last district game for the Hogs. Heavener still has Pocola next week. HEAVENER 28, PANAMA 14.
HARTSHORNE AT TALIHINA—After a 5-0 start, Talihina has dropped three straight and plays probably the second best team in the district tonight. Hartshorne coming off the beat down by Vian last week. To have any hope of making the playoffs, Talihina must win tonight. But…HARTSHORNE 35, TALIHINA 28.
BOKOSHE AT ARKOMA—Bad timing for Bokoshe. Arkoma lost its first game of the season last week and now hosts a struggling Bokoshe team. This one could end early courtesy of the mercy rule. ARKOMA 50, BOKOSHE 14.
