POTEAU–Poteau had Fort Gibson right where the Lady Pirates wanted the visitors.
After falling in the first meeting Wednesday afternoon, Poteau came back to defeat Stilwell, 13-0, and then slammed Fort Gibson, 6-1, to force a third and final game with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
But the Lady Pirates hopes of advancing to the state tournament ended as Fort Gibson got a big lead early and held on to defeat Poteau, 10-3.
Poteau actually jumped ahead, 2-0, in the first inning as Gabba Wilson singled, stole second and scored on a double by Brenna Vise, who also scored. Fort Gibson came back in the bottom half of the inning to score eight runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Lady Pirates committed a couple of key errors.
Alaynna Holdsworth tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the second to cut the lead to 8-3. Poteau could not score again while Fort Gibson added a pair of runs late to finish off the 10-3 win and eliminate the Lady Pirates.
