They say all great athletes go through slumps at times.
Apparently, so do “great” pickers. Our beloved Panel, better known as the terrific trio, who we have counted on so many times to steer us the right way in picking high school football games involving LeFlore County teams, had some serious miscalculations last week.
Maybe it is the intense pressure of competing with LeFlore County’s finest football experts for the right to hold the prestigious Traveling Trophy. Who knows?
Or it could be the slump we previously addressed. But our panel pickers took one on the chin last week. All three pickers were, gasp, 6-4.
“Gee, our performance obviously left something to be desired!” Jerry Pitchford did not say, but probably felt.
“On behalf of my fans, I would like to apologize for my performance,” Mark Caldwell also did not say.
“You know, I expect this from Pitchford and Caldwell, but not Doug Hall,” Doug Hall also obviously felt, but did not say.
We couldn’t even crown a weekly winner, since there was even a tie for the tiebreaker.
At least the competition remains in a heated race, which tends to happen when everybody has the same record. Pitchford and Hall are still in the lead at 39-12 overall while Caldwell, last year’s champion, is only a game back at 38-13.
