POTEAU–Six up and six down for the Poteau eighth grade football team.
The eighth graders stayed perfect on the season Tuesday night by manhandling Broken Bow, 33-8, in a game that was over well before halftime.
Tailback Roger Barcheers scored four touchdowns, three in the first half, as the Raiders improved to 6-0 on the season with two games remaining.
Barcheers got the scoring started early by taking the handoff on the second play of the game and getting Poteau on the scoreboard with a 57-yard run.
His next carry resulted in a 41-yard touchdown run to give Poteau all the points it would need.
Fullback Sam Shore added Poteau’s next touchdown on a 20-yard run.
Just before halftime, Barcheers returned a punt some 45 yards for another score, and added his final touchdown on the first play of the second half, a 50-yard run on the Raiders’ initial play of the third quarter.
Broken Bow scored its only touchdown late in the game after Poteau’s starters were on the sidelines resting.
In the seventh grade game, Poteau was driving for a possible go-ahead touchdown when the Raiders turned the ball over and Broken Bow scored the clinching touchdown.
Poteau has games left against Spiro and Fort Gibson.
