Two streaks came to a half in county football games Thursday night.
Arkoma’s undefeated season was snapped by Webbers Falls while Panama’s long losing streak is now history.
Also in Thursday’s games, Poteau kept its playoff hopes alive (see story), Spiro had a rough night at Valliant and Talihina fell at Wilburton.
In what was probably the game to decide the district championship in C-4, Webbers Falls crushed the Mustangs, 84-38. Webbers Falls improves to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in district play. Arkoma drops to 7-1 and 4-1.
Panama’s 17-game losing streak was snapped in the Razorbacks’ game against rival Pocola. Panama used an Isaac Burris 35-yard field goal in the third quarter to take the lead and knocked off the Indians, 21-20.
Pocola led 20-18 at halftime. Burris’ field goal was the only score in the second half. Panama is actually in the playoff hunt with a 1-7 record overall and 1-4 mark in district play.
The Indians drop to 4-4 and 1-4.
Spiro’s hopes of making another trip to the playoffs is in jeopardy after the Bulldogs fell at Valliant, 42-19. Spiro falls to 3-5 and 2-3. Valliant improves to 6-2 and 3-2.
Wilburton stayed undefeated in district play with a 28-13 win over Talihina at home. The Diggers are now 5-3 and 4-0 while Talihina, which dropped its third straight, falls to 5-3 and 1-3.
Wilburton plays Vian next week in a game which will decide the district championship.
In the final county game of the night, Bokoshe lost to Bluejacket, 60-14.
In county games next week, Pocola plays at Stigler JV, Poteau visits Fort Gibson, Bokoshe travels to Arkoma, Heavener is at Panama, Spiro hosts Atoka and Hartshorne visits Talihina.
