After fighting back through the losers bracket of its own regional, Wister will try to defend its spring state championship when the Class A fall state baseball tournament opens on Thursday.
The second-ranked Wildcats open play Thursday at 5 p.m. against 12th-ranked Amber-Pocasset.
In other first-round games, top-ranked Dale plays fifth-ranked Latta; No. 6 Rattan takes on fourth-ranked Ft. Cobb-Broxton and seventh-ranked Sterling faces No. 3 Byng.
All first-round games will be played at Edmond Memorial High School before shifting to Edmond Santa Fe for the semifinals with the finals being held at RedHawk Field in Bricktown.
If Wister and Dale win their first-round games, it would set up a rematch between the finalists for the Class 2A state championship last year in a game won by the Wildcats.
