Van Buren used a big run in the third quarter to down Poteau’s boys in the Citizens Bank Classic here Tuesday night.
The Pointers improved to 2-0 while the Pirates dropped their season opener, 64-39. Poteau, which played without returning starters Marshall Jones and Blake Roley, opened an 11-3 lead early and were tied at 26 in the third quarter before Van Buren went on its run. Sophomore Jarrett Lowrimore led Poteau with nine points.
Poteau’s girls also lost their opener in the Classic to Shiloh Christian, 59-35. Shiloh Christian, now 4-0, led only by a point after the first quarter bug used a 19-6 run in the second quarter to take control.
In other county games from Tuesday, Talihina’s girls opened with a 51-39 win at Antlers, Bokoshe’s girls improved to 3-0 with a 79-36 win over Kinta, Pocola’s girls lost their opener at Stigler, 40-29, Pocola’s boys opened with a 55-47 win while Kinta dropped Bokoshe’s boys, 67-9.
