Tobacco-free LeFlore County, a program of the LeFlore County Coalition for Healthy Living and LeFlore County Youth Services, Inc. recently celebrated the success of their first year of existence.
The celebration was held during the October meeting of the LeFlore County Coalition for Healthy Living. Coalition members were joined by special guests Senator Mark Allen and Representative James Lockhart.
Both Senator Allen and Representative Lockhart shared stories of how tobacco has negatively affected both their families and businesses. Program Coordinator, BJ Barnes, shared how the coalition has been successful in assisting four public schools in adopting a 24/7 Tobacco-free School Policy, two businesses adopting tobacco-free worksite policies and assisted 340 LeFlore County residents in registering with the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.
The celebration also highlighted the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust’s Year 2 commitment of $125,000 for the continuation of the program. Tobacco-free LeFlore County is a coalition of individual and businesses concerned with the negative effects tobacco has on our county.
