Talihina’s girls moved into the finals of the Choctaw Invitational Tournament while Heavener’s boys and girls won their first games of the season at the Hilldale Tournament.
Talihina downed Rattan, 25-18 to advance to the finals against Antlers, a 33-26 winner over Central. Howe’s girls bounced back from their loss to Rattan to down Wister, 48-17.
In the boys finals, Rattan will face Central. Rattan downed Wister, 57-35, while Central edged Howe, 64-62, to advance. In other games on the boys bracket, Pocola handled Talihina’s JV, 47-25, and Antlers edged Talihina’s varsity, 41-40.
At Hilldale, Heavener’s boys and girls came out on top for the first time this season. The Wolves bounced back from an off night shooting the night before to down Morris, 62-42, behind four players in double figures.
Trevor Smith led the Wolves with 16 points, Tyler Hamm and Shaun Bradley each had 13, while Luke Culpepper finished with 11.
The Lady Wolves downed Morris’ JV, 49-40, for their first win of the season.
Heavener plays two games again today. The Lady Wolves play Vian at 1 p.m. while the boys take on Grove at 2:30 p.m.
At the H.B. Stewart Classic at Greenwood, the hosts took a pair of contests over Poteau.
Greenwood’s girls had an easy go of it in a 68-35 win over the Lady Pirates while the Pirates made a run in the fourth quarter before Greenwood held them off.
Kaitlan Standridge led Poteau with 15 points and Coleen Peterson added 14. Kendrick Hardaway paced Poteau’s boys with 18 points and Wilson Klutts added 11.
Both Poteau teams face Ozark today with the girls playing at 4 p.m. and the boys tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
Three county teams are also playing in the finals of the Eastern Oklahoma State College. Bokoshe’s girls play at 5:10 p.m. while the Cameron and LeFlore boys play at 6:30 p.m.
