The Boys and Girls Club of LeFlore County have set goals and made resolutions for the New Year.
As we reflect back to 2011, it was really an amazing year. With an average attendance at all of our sites being over 500 on daily basis, our goal is simple: to allows families in the area to have some peace of mind knowing that their children have a save place for kids to be while they work.
The community support and involvement was just wonderful. Individuals and businesses not only gave money, but volunteered time. Thanks to everyone who has supported us.
So this year our resolution is to focus on the family and be able to meet our needs and set higher goals.
A New Year’s resolution is a way of life transformation. The idea is to become more self-confident, or to become more economically or environmentally stable.
So, our goal is not only to help families but to become more economically stable in 2012.
We want to be a place that cares. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Yet we also want to be more than that by providing programs and services that promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. We continue to be a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is the place where great futures are started each and every day.
We also want to continue to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We also need the continued support of the community.
The BGCLC is a partnership with the schools, funding comes from a 21 Century Grant as well as other grants and by businesses and individuals in the community. Our biggest fund raising event is coming up in February as we prepare for “Affair of the Heart” Valentine Ball. Dinner, dancing, live music and live auction is sure to be a wonderful event.
The event will take place at the Reynolds Center in Poteau on Feb. 11, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Poteau Chamber of Commerce, the First National Bank in Heavener and the BGCLC office.
All proceeds go to benefits the kids of the county.
