All the county schools are now playing basketball and there have been some changes in the weekly polls.
Each week during the basketball season, the Journal publishes its poll along with a Readers Poll submitted by coaches, players and fans. The Journal publishes the rankings each Monday morning.
On the Journal’s poll, Spiro’s boys and Howe’s girls are still on top of the rankings. Spiro opened with a 20-point win over Heavener on Thursday while Howe is 5-0 and yet to be challenged.
Spiro’s girls are second again and opened with a 52-37 win over two-time defending LCT champion Heavener.
Wister and Cameron swapped places after the Wildcats’ one-point win at Cameron on Friday. A team to watch out for is Pocola, which is now 2-0 after road wins at Stigler and Panama. The Indians are sixth and closing fast.
Another team moving up the rankings is LeFlore, now at seventh after previously coming in at 10th.
Talihina moved up to third in the girls’ ranking while Poteau dropped to fourth. Bokoshe moved to fifth while Heavener fell to sixth.
In the Readers Poll, Spiro is first in both divisions.
Most county schools are involved in tournaments this week as Talihina hosts its annual Choctaw Invitational Tournamentwith Talihina, Howe, Wister and Pocola taking part.
Poteau’s boys and girls are in the H.B. Stewart Classic at Greenwood. Cameron, Bokoshe, LeFlore and Whitesboro are in the EOSC Tournament.
Heavener will take part in the Hilldale Tournament.
