Talihina’s girls broke open a tight game in the second half and went on to win the Choctaw Invitational Tournament over Antlers Saturday evening.
The Lady Tigers dominated the second half, 25-12, and claimed the championship with a 41-26 victory.
Tara Hawkins was selected Most Valuable Player in the tournament while teammates Chelsea Baggs and Kristen Houston were also selected to the team. Megan Brown of Howe was also on the all-tournament team.
Howe bounced back from an opening round loss to win its two finals games, including a 66-40 victory over Pocola Saturday.
Heavener’s girls fell to Vian at the Hilldale Tournament, 57-43, while Poteau’s girls are still looking for their first win after falling to Ozark, 55-40, at the H.B. Stewart Classic at Greenwood.
Coleen Peterson scored 14 for the Lady Pirates in the loss while Kaitlan Standridge added 10.
In boys action, Howe came from behind late and avenged an earlier loss to Wister with a 49-45 win over the Wildcats in the third-place game at the Choctaw Invitational Tournament. Pocola got a late basket to edge Antlers, 60-59.
Heavener fell to Grove, 37-34, at the Hilldale Tournament while Poteau lost to Ozark, 45-36, as the Pirates went cold in the second half after leading at halftime.
Marshall Jones scored 10 points to lead the Pirates.
