Spiro’s boys held on to the top spot in the weekly LeFlore County Journal rankings while Talihina’s girls are now the No. 1 team in the county.
Spiro is 3-0 overall with wins over Heavener, Stilwell and Stigler heading into Tuesday’s contest at county rival Poteau, the Journal’s second-ranked team.
Heavener remains third while Howe jumps from eighth to fourth after the Lions’ third-place finish at the Choctaw Invitational Tournament.
Howe got the nod after its win over Wister in the third-place game. Wister drops from fourth to fifth with a slight edge over Cameron, after the Wildcats beat the Yellow Jackets on the road last week.
LeFlore remains at seventh after its overtime loss to Cameron in the finals of the EOSC Tournament.
Talihina’s girls jumped from third to first in the girls ranking after the Lady Tigers won the Choctaw Invitational Tournament. Both Howe and Spiro lost last week, clearing the way for Talihina to jump the two county teams.
Bokoshe moves to fourth after winning the EOSC Tournament by beating Panola in overtime.
Poteau, which is winless on the year, drops to fifth. Arkoma, now 4-1 after winning its tournament over the weekend, is 10th after being ranked 12th last week.
In the Readers Poll, Poteau’s boys and Talihina girls are the top teams.
Each Monday, the Journal publishes its poll along with the Readers Poll. All coaches, fans and players are invited to rank the county teams and nobody’s identitity or picks will be revealed.
