VAN BUREN—Poteau’s boys picked up their first win of the season while Springdale used the three to break open the game in the second half and down Poteau’s girls in the consolation finals of the Citizens Bank Classic here Saturday.
Poteau (now 1-3) edged Farmington, 48-40 and the Lady Pirates, now 0-2, were tied at halftime before Poteau got in foul trouble and Springdale pulled away for a 71-53 win.
Springdale made 9-18 three points in the win while Poteau struggled at the free-throw line, going only 17-38.
Kaitlan Standridge led the Lady Pirates with 14 points followed by Colleen Peterson with 11. Meagan Ryburn and Briley Benson each had nine while Ashlee Bandy added eight and Chelsey Campbell two.
Peterson was the leading rebounder with seven. Peterson had four assists while Benson had three.
Poteau is back in action Thursday at the H.B. Stewart Classic at Greenwood. The Lady Pirates play West Fork at 4:30 p.m. while Poteau’s boys take on West Fork at 5:30 p.m.
