Poteau’s boys came back late to win at the H.B. Stewart Classic at Greenwood while Howe’s girls lost their first game of the season at the Choctaw Invitational Tournament at Talihina Thursday.
Poteau was behind by nine points in the fourth quarter before rallying to win its second straight. Trailing by six points, Jarrett Lowrimore hit two three’s to tie the score and Wilson Klutts made four free throws down the stretch to seal the win for Poteau over West Fork. Kendrick Hardaway led the Pirates (2-2) with 20 points while Lowrimore added nine.
West Fork’s girls were too much for Poteau, as the Lady Pirates dropped a 63-37 decision. Kaitlan Standridge had 14 points to lead Poteau. Both Poteau teams play Greenwood tonight with the girls playing at 7 and the boys at 8:30.
Four county schools competed in the Choctaw Invitational Tournament with Howe’s 45-44 loss to Rattan coming as the big shocker. The Lady Lions led most of the contest before Rattan came back late to win.
Howe’s boys won over Talihina, 60-49, while Wister’s boys knocked off Pocola, 65-46, in matchups of county teams. Also, Central’s boys defeated Antlers, 51-46, and Rattan beat the Talihina JV, 38-18.
Talihina’s girls were too much for Wister in a 76-33 win while in other girls games, Central downed Talihina’s JV, 51-16 and Antlers edged Pocola, 41-29.
In semifinal games today at the tournament, in the boys bracket Central and Howe play at 5:40 with Wister and Rattan playing at 8:20 p.m. Girls semifinal play has Central and Antlers playing at 4:20 p.m. with Talihina and Rattan tipping off at 7 p.m.
Heavener fell twice at the Hilldale Tournament to Stilwell. The Wolves lost, 42-18, while Stilwell’s girls overcame the Lady Wolves, 49-35.
