POTEAU–Approximately 20 Carl Albert State College employees met with Dr. Linda Mason at the Poteau campus to hear information regarding grant writing and the availability of grants.
Mason is the Coordinator for Grant Writing and External Fundraising Assistance with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Those in attendance included CASC grant writers, Deborah Cummings and Rita Thomas, plus several members of CASC administration, faculty, and staff.
According to Dr. Brandon Webb, CASC President, Dr. Mason is one of the most knowledgeable people he knows dealing with grants.
“We all know the importance of grants to institutions, and Dr. Mason’s assistance is certainly valuable to us at Carl Albert State College as well as others across the state,” Webb said.
Mason explained that she was at CASC to provide an overview of grant writing and grant opportunities. She emphasized there are many grants available, and that the organizations with grant funds will give that money away through grant application processes regardless at times of economic conditions. She stated it is important for institutions to have an effective strategy to apply for said grants.
“I provide the colleges and universities in Oklahoma a newsletter to remind them of what grants are available, and also who has recently received grants,” Mason said. “I want to continually share what can be done and help you in any way possible.”
Mason assured those in attendance that she would be available to do a more exhaustive grant writing workshop at a later time, and that this particular workshop was just a beginning.
