“The Affair of the Heart” Valentine Banquet was a night of great fun, with live auction, silent auction and good food, great fellowship and most importantly it brought awareness the community about the Boys and Girls Club of LeFlore County and our cause to create a safe place for kids to be after-school.
The money raised will help keep our doors open and provide parents a peace of mind that their children are not only safe but getting some educational enhancement, healthy snacks, and physical fitness activities.
The event held on Feb. 11 at the Reynolds Event Center in Poteau, was a great success and it took a lot of volunteers to help plan and organize the event.
BGCLC Board member, Pat Gillham, headed up the committee. She was instrumental in getting all the auction items. A big thanks goes to all businesses and individuals who donated live and silent auction items. Also for those individuals who donated prizes and other services for our door prizes.
Also a big thanks goes out to the many volunteers who helped us out the night of the event. Thank you to the Poteau and Heavener Masonic Lodge for plating the food, the Choctaw Nation YAB Group, Poteau and Heavener school workers, the Americorp Volunteers and the youth and Calvary Assembly in Poteau for serving the food, refilling the tea and water and for cleaning up. I know that I am probably leaving some one off.
To Johnette Stites for helping with ticket sales and with getting the auction items ready and to Kristina Skinner, who who made a power-point presentation and helping decorate. Thanks goes to Marcus Blair and Carl Albert State College for the making the video. The video was looked very professional and stated our mission perfectly.
The night was also a night of introductions and Bill Slater, President of the Board for the BGCLC introduced our New Chief Professional Officer, Clayton Roper. Roper is a native of Fort Smith with over 10 years experience in non profits.
Overall a great success. The money made is still being tallied up. But, I know that all the hard work will pay off. So, thanks to everyone who has helped make a “Great Future” for kids of LeFlore County. For more information about the BGCLC or to donate contact the office at 918 647-7136.
