TAKE ON TOPICS
But the key is to take a Prilosec pill early in the morning. I do enjoy the behind the scene antics in the judging room. Jody Ray Adams always keeps the other judges laughing. If you saw his performance at the banquet as Marilyn Pledger, well that should be an indication.
Thank you Dawn Webster and Carl Albert State College for giving me a break and letting me enjoy some laughs at your event.
Joe Harwell, a former Poteau graduate, was in town this last week. Harwell is an author and had book signings at the Old Lowery Hotel and the Days Inn & Suites. He has been very gracious in donating one book for every one sold to local libraries and the Heavener Runestone Park. The stories in his books take place in our area including “Indian Rock”, the Heavener Runestone. I purchased a copy of two of the books to start reading. If you missed your chance to see him, the books are for sale at the Heavener Runestone Park.
I also attended the 2012 Compass Conference in Fort Smith this week. I was glad to see my friend Jim Dunn from the US Marshals Museum. There will be a statue of Bass Reeves unveiled on May 26.
The Compass Report is a quarterly regional economic report for Fort Smith and the surrounding area. It is the only independent comprehensive economic analysis of the area. Jeff Collins, an economist, was the main speaker and it was very interesting.
The Executive Director of the Arkansas Parks and Tourism, Richard Davies, was also a speaker. Davies was part of the group that I attended the pre opening of Crystal Bridges with. I want to thank AES Shady Point and OGE for inviting me to attend as part of the Fort Smith Regional Alliance.
The Tourism Committee for the Fort Smith Regional Alliance is busy putting together the new two-state tear off map. I hope we can start getting it proofed by the different towns involved very soon.
This week promises to also be busy with the upcoming meetings and then the fun events on Friday and Saturday. I have never played trivia before but have agreed to have a team for Special Olympics and another team in Spiro for the Spiro Chamber. This will be interesting I’m sure, and I am looking forward to it!
Until next week…
