POTEAU–The Wal-Mart/CASC 16th Annual Chili Cooking Contest is set for Thursday and everyone is invited to get involved in this year’s event.
The competition will take place at the Poteau campus of Carl Albert State College from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second floor of the Costner-Balentine Student Center.
There is no entry fee, and prizes will be awarded to those who make the tastiest chili. Lots of door prizes will also be given away during the event. There is also a silent auction featuring an array of items.
For those wanting to take advantage of a great meal plus lots of fun, tickets to the event are $7 and cover all you can eat chili, hotdogs, drinks, and desserts. Tickets can be purchased from many CASC employees, or by calling 918-647-1231 or 918-647-1398. Ticket purchases and entry forms can also be purchased/picked up at Johnson Hall, Room 201 or F.L. Holton Business Center, Room 805.
The chili cooking contest is sponsored by Wal-Mart, and they will again be providing matching funds for a portion of the proceeds. The contest is a fundraising effort by staff, faculty, students and supporters of CASC to benefit the CASC Development Foundation, which provides scholarships to students and builds dormitories. This year’s funds will be used for scholarships.
CASC President Brandon Webb, and Title III Director Jay Falkner will Emcee this year’s event. Entertainment will be provided by several individual members of the College’s New Horizon Show Choir. Since it began, the Chili Cooking Contest has raised $96,000, all of which directly benefit the lives of CASC students.
