POTEAU–James Houston “Hoot” Jackson, 71, of Poteau, passed away Feb. 19, 2012 in Hot Springs. He was born July 1, 1940 in Tahlequah to Hyrum and Evelyn (Wann) Jackson, was a veteran of the National Guard, worked in metal fabrication and was a member of Summerfield Baptist Church.
Services are Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Jim Cook and Rev. Phil McGehee officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lois Jackson; his parents, Hyrum Jackson, Arden and Evelyn (Wann) Evans; and a brother, AC Evans.
Survivors include his son Jeff Jackson and wife Traci of Poteau; daughter Julie Shipley and husband Kenneth of Poteau; grandchildren, Jane, Jaci, Blainey, Brody and Jentri; great grandchildren, Journi and MaKenzi; brother, Larry Jackson of Stilwell; sister, Mary Sparks of Gruver, Texas; sister-in-law, Vickie Evans of Summerfield; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dot and Jerry Ford of Poteau; niece and nephew, Kari Collins of Buffalo Valley and Daron Evans of Dallas; and special friend Beverly Cantwell of Poteau.
Pallbearers are Cletus Hall, Don McMillin, Rusty White, Mark McMillin, Dustin Reece, Scotty White, Cliff Ryburn and Mike Sockey. Honorary pallbearers will be Spider Webb, Glen Thompson, Babe Smith, James Lynch, Jerry Neff, Frank Jones, Larry Poe and all members of the Poteau Men’s Athletic Club.
The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
