Howe’s girls are the only survivor from LeFlore County after two days of area play which eliminated all the other teams.
The Lady Lions held off Talihina, 42-35, in a Class 2A Area Tournament game at Wilburton to advance to face Amber-Pocasset again for a trip to the state tournament on the line.
Also Friday, third-ranked Victory Christian eliminated Spiro’s boys, 64-55, in a Class 3A Area Tournament game at Fort Gibson.
Howe plays Am-Po at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Wilburton High School. Oktaha won the area tournament and handed Am-Po its first loss of the season Friday, 42-39.
Saturday’s contest will be the second meeting in the last week between Am-Po and Howe. The Lady Lions lost in the regional tournament finals at Ada on Saturday, 41-30.
Tori Kellogg scored 15 points while Brianna Hillebrand had nine and Abigail McGarrah eight in Howe’s win Friday in a rematch of the LCT finals.
The Lady Lions grabbed an early lead and led by six at halftime. Talihina cut into the margin in the third quarter before Howe regained momentum in the final quarter.
Tara Hawkins’ 16 points paced Talihina while Chelsea Baggs added seven.
Spiro fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter against Victory Christian and never mounted a serious charge in losing, 64-55.
Knifeis Carter led the Bulldogs with 20 points, Jermaine Jimmerson added 15 and Tyh Hawkins nine.
