POTEAU—The 2012 Poteau Wood Bat Festival finally got underway Friday after a week of rain and postponements.
After not playing for a week, Poteau got off to a good start before Dickson rallied late to edge the Pirates, 6-5, while Cameron defeated Moss, 5-1, at Cameron.
The Pirates built up a 5-0 lead after four innings before Dickson fought back and scored six runs in the fifth to take the lead with the big blow a bases loaded double by Jamie Reed to clear the runners.
Poteau loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh before Dickson escaped with a strike out for the win.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Kaydon Evans’ double scored Jace Pitchford in the bottom of the first. A two-out single by Davey Bullard drove in another run in the second to increase the lead to 2-0.
In the fourth, Pitchford drove in two runs with a single and Evans followed with a single to drive in Pitchford for the 5-0 lead.
At Cameron, Alex Humphries had a double and a home run to lead the Yellow Jackets to the win over Moss. Humphries’ home run in the sixth helped Cameron break open a tight game and open a good margin to close out the win.
