ROLAND—Poteau grabbed its first win of the season here Monday with a 9-3 win over Roland.
Wilson Klutts improved to 1-0 pitching, going six innings and allowing no earned runs. Klutts was also 3-3 batting with a double and three runs scored.
Blake Roley was 3-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored while Stephen Smith was 2-3 with a double, Kaydon Evans had a two-run double and Davey Bullard also had a double for the Pirates.
Jace Pitchford came on in the seventh and pitched the final inning for the Pirates.
Poteau jumped on top with two runs in the first, added a single run in the fourth and fifth and put the game away with five runs in the seventh.
The Pirates have their home opener Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Northside.
The junior varsity team improved to 2-0 with a 10-0 win over the Rangers while the seventh and eighth-grade teams swept Sallisaw, 9-2 and 7-2.
