A Pie Throwing Fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday at noon in the Dunlap Oval of the CASC Poteau campus. The event is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) to raise funds for PTK members to attend the 2012 International Convention in Nashville.
“We need to generate some serious funds due to increased costs for the trip,” said Shirley Olund, a CASC PTK advisor. “These students are some of CASC’s best, and participation in the pie throwing event will greatly increase our proceeds and their opportunity to attend the international convention.”
Olund added that CASC had a similar event last year and had 10 faculty and staff members volunteer to receive a pie in the face.
“In the days leading up to the event, each member received votes with a dollar equaling one vote,” she said. “The top three to five faculty and staff members with the most votes received a pie in the face. For last year’s event, President Brandon Webb said if we reached $1,000 he would also take a pie to the face. We met that challenge last year, and we will see what kind of challenge we might come up with this year – we would love to have the same or a similar challenge come through again.”
This year’s volunteer list is being assembled and will be announced soon. Last year’s volunteers included Dr. Jim Yates, Jerry Holton, Mike St. John, Kendall Repass, David Hogan II, Melissa Cunningham, Shalom Staats, Hank Austin and Tara Pierce.
Olund did say she wanted to clarify that a “pie” will consist of a pie tin filled with cool whip. Also, the recipients of the pie to the face will be provided with protection for clothes, eyes and hair.
