Chief Warrant Officer 2 Randy Billings, a former resident of Heavener, was one of five soldiers killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday in southern Afghanistan.
Billings, the pilot of a Black Hawk UH-60, was killed along with four other soldiers based out of Fort Riley, Kan., and one based in Europe. The men were killed during a mission near Zabul. One soldier survived the attack.
Also killed in the crash were Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joshua Silverman of Scottsdale, Ariz., Sgt. Peter Bohler of Willow Spring, N.C., Sgt. 1st Class Omar Forde of Marietta, Ga., and Spc. Terry Gordon of Shubuta, Miss.
Billings leaves behind a wife, Ashley.
The 1st Division Combat Aviation Brigade was serving a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan. They were sent in August. They were responsible for providing air support.
