The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a winter storm watch in effect from Thursday at noon through Friday night.
LeFlore, Pushmataha and Choctaw counties in Oklahoma and Sebastian and Franklin counties in Arkansas are under the watch.
The NWS has issued the watch for freezing rain, sleet and eventually snow in the areas.
Freezing rain will arrive in southeastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas on Thursday afternoon with the precipitation changing to a freezing rain and sleet mix, eventually turning to just sleet. Snow is expected later on.
The areas will likely receive a significant amount of freezing rain, up to a quarter inch or more of ice accumulation expected, which could cause interruptions in power.
Travel could be treacherous because roads, bridges and overpasses may become slick and hazardous.
