HEAVENER—Things got a little heated at times in Friday’s scrimmage between Heavener and Poteau, just like it used to when the two former rivals battled every year for some 60 years.
This was not your typical scrimmage where the teams take it easy and spend a lot of time hugging. Instead, it was physical from the start to the finish.
One would expect that from Poteau, a state finalist last year in Class 4A. But Heavener also showed the crowd this is far from the team that slumped to a 2-8 record last year.
