It’s another big week for high school football on Friday, even with one team having a bye and two others playing non-district games.
Talihina has a bye while Spiro hosts undefeated Stroud and Panama visits Foyil in non-district play.
The other five LeFlore County teams are involved in district games.
Poteau is at Stilwell, Heavener travels to Stigler, Pocola hosts Liberty, Arkoma is at Porum; and Bokoshe makes its first road trip of the year when the Tigers make the trip to Midway.
Poteau needs to win at Stilwell bad with the meat of the Pirates’ schedule coming up in the next few weeks. After last Friday’s loss at home to Metro Christian, Poteau (2-3, 1-1) still has Fort Gibson, Sallisaw, Broken Bow and Tulsa Central coming up.
Heavener is visiting old rival Stigler in an important matchup of 3A-8 teams fighting for a playoff spot. The Wolves are 2-3 and 1-1 while Stigler is 1-4 and 1-1, but nearly knocked off undefeated Idabel on the road last week.
For Pocola to have any hopes of making the playoff spots, the Indians (1-4 and 0-1) must defeat winless Liberty. The Indians still have games against Vian, Hartshorne and Panama coming up and cannot afford a loss on Friday.
Arkoma’s playoff hopes are fading, although the Mustangs could stay alive with a win at Porum. Bokoshe is hoping to get its first victory of the season at Midway in Class C action.
Spiro will try to bounce back after losing at Eufaula last week when the Bulldogs host undefeated Stroud in a non-district game. Stroud is 5-0 and ranked in the top 10 in 2A.
Panama is also looking to get back on the winning track after losing to Hartshorne last week. The Razorbacks are 3-2 and 1-1 in the district.
