It’s Week 8 in the 2014 football season on Friday night and there is a full schedule of games for LeFlore County teams.
The biggest game of the week has Poteau hosting old rival Sallisaw in a key 4A-4 game.
In other contests, Arkoma is at Wetumka, Bokoshe visits Paoli, Heavener travels to Spiro, Panama hosts Wilburton, Pocola is home against Vian and Talihina entertains Quinton.
Sallisaw is 5-2 and 3-1 while Poteau is 4-3 and 3-1. The two teams are tied with Metro Christian for second in the district behind undefeated Fort Gibson.
The winner could potentially tie for the district championship while the loser will still likely make the playoffs, but would probably be on the road in the first round of the playoffs.
LeFlore County rivals Heavener and Spiro hook up again tonight with the Wolves expected to be shorthanded with 10 starters sitting out the game.
Heavener is 2-5 and 1-3 while the Bulldogs are 4-2 and 1-2 and looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
Panama is rolling toward another playoff spot as the Razorbacks host winless Wilburton on Friday. Panama is 5-2 and 2-1 while Wilburton is 0-7 and 0-3.
The Razorbacks, Antlers and Vian each have one district loss while Hartshorne is undefeated in district play and has defeated both Panama and Vian.
Pocola (2-5, 1-2) hosts Vian in another key 2A-6 contest. The Wolverines are 4-3 and 2-1, but are coming off back-to-back losses. Pocola still has an outside shot at the playoffs.
Talihina will look to move one step closer to a district championship when the Golden Tigers host Quinton. Talihina is 6-0 and 3-0 in the district while Quinton is 4-3 and 2-2.
Arkoma will try to win its first district game when the Mustangs (1-6, 0-6) visit Wetumka (3-4, 3-3). After defeating Bokoshe in the opener, the Mustangs have dropped six straight district games.
Bokoshe and Paoli meet in a game with the winner getting their first win of the season. Both teams are 0-7 and 0-5 in district play.
