Poteau’s first-round opponent in the Class 4A football playoffs has switched from Wagoner to Oologah.
Oologah won the 4A-3 district championship, but had to forfeit three games, moving Wagoner up to the district championship spot while Oologah dropped to second.
Two of the forfeits were in district games. Oologah reportedly played a player that was academically ineligible in those three games. The player actually took part in four games, but one of those games was a loss to Skiatook.
Prior to the forfeits, Oologah was 8-2 overall and 7-0 in district play. Poteau enters Friday’s game at 6-4. The Pirates finished third in 4A-4 behind Fort Gibson and Metro Christian.
The Mustangs self-reported the infraction.
Sallisaw, which was going to play at Oologah, now plays at Wagoner. Also, the changes had an effect on the other district playoff teams. Cascia Hall now goes to Fort Gibson while Catoosa plays at Metro Christian.
