Talihina will try to advance to the Class A semifinals for the second straight year and get some revenge for its only loss of the last two seasons when the Golden Tigers visit Ringling in a quarterfinal game Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The game is a rematch of a semifinal contest from last year at Southeastern in Durant (see STORY). Ringling, which won state two years ago, edged the Tigers 26-18 in that contest to advance to the state finals where Hollis won.
While Ringling was a big favorite in last year’s contest, that isn’t the case this time. Talihina is 11-0 and ranked second in the state while Ringling is 10-1 and ranked fifth.
The winner advances to the semifinals next week against the Cashion and Stratford winner. Talihina moved into the quarterfinals with a 62-20 win over Morrison while Ringling defeated Fairview 38-22 in second-round games last week.
Talihina has blown out 10 of its 11 opponents with the only relatively close contest a 42-28 win at Christian Heritage in the second week. Ringling lost its opener to Oklahoma City Christian before winning its last 10 games.
