Talihina advanced to the Class A semifinals with a 28-8 win at Ringling on Friday night.
The win moves the Golden Tigers into a matchup with Cashion next week. The time, date and location will be announced by the OSSAA on Monday.
Talihina’s win avenged the Tigers’ only loss of the last two years, 26-18, in the semifinals at Southeastern. This was the second straight year Talihina has avenged its only loss from the previous year as the Tigers won at Cashion last year, 22-20, in the quarterfinals.
Cashion won at Talihina two years ago in the quarterfinals, 43-24.
The winner of the Talihina and Cashion game will play the Thomas and Wynnewood winner in the finals in two weeks.
Senior quarterback Alan Lockhart ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, to Bryar Humphreys, while the Tigers’ defense kept Ringling out of the end zone.
Ringling’s only touchdown came on a kickoff return after Talihina’s first score and tied the game at 8. Lockhart and Humphreys had just hooked up on a 34-yard touchdown pass.
Lockhart scored twice in the second quarter to put Talihina ahead for good. He scored on a 13-yard run with 9:09 left and after the Tigers recovered the kickoff, added an 18-yard run with 5:34 left before halftime.
The defenses dominated play until Lockhart added a 13-yard run with 2:32 left in the final quarter for the final margin.
Talihina improves to 12-0 while Ringling, the state champion two years ago, finishes at 10-2.
