Each year leading up to the seeding meeting for the LeFlore County Tournament, I try to predict the seeds.
The seeding meeting is Wednesday so it is time to either look like a smart guy, or an idiot.
We will go with the girls first and then the boys.
Howe girls clinched the top seed with the win over Arkoma in the finals of the Green Valley Conference tournament. I picked Arkoma second based on its play the year with a narrow edge over Spiro, which lost its first game Tuesday to Muldrow after winning the Wilburton Digger Invitational over the weekend.
Heavener at 3-1, could easily be undefeated and comes in fourth. After that, it gets tough.
These picks were even tougher than the ones for the girls. Talihina is 1-0 after defeating Antlers, 50-41, on Tuesday while three-time defending champion Spiro has struggled early and is 2-2 after a win over Muldrow, also on Tuesday.
Whitesboro was third, mainly due to an earlier win over Howe, while Heavener is fourth and Howe fifth. These three could be swapped in any order and won’t be too far wrong.
Poteau was picked at sixth, although LeFlore could easily be in this spot or even higher.
Wister, Cameron and Panama on eight through 10 is also interchangeable.
We will post the seedings after the meeting Wednesday night.
