Two of the top offenses in Oklahoma will pair off when Talihina takes on Cashion in a Class A semifinal game on Friday in Glenpool.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. In the other semifinal game, Wynnewood plays Thomas. The winners of the two semifinals will play next week.
All four semifinal teams are undefeated. Talihina is 12-0 while Cashion enters Friday’s game at 13-0.
This will be the third straight year the two teams have met in the playoffs. Both prior meetings were in the quarterfinals. Last year, Talihina won at Cashion, 22-20, after Cashion won at Talihina two seasons ago, 43-24.
The two teams were held to season lows in points on the road during the semifinal wins. Talihina won at Ringling, 28-8, in a rematch of last year’s semifinal game while Cashion held off Stratford, 20-13.
Talihina enters the contest averaging 55 points per game while Cashion scores 51 points per game. The Golden Tigers only allow 11.5 points per game while Cashion gives up 15.3.
In last year’s game (see STORY), Talihina came up with three big stops in the fourth quarter to hold off Cashion while Alan Lockhart scored twice and threw another touchdown pass to Bryar Humphreys.
In the Daily Oklahoman’s poll, Talihina is second and Cashion is third. Thomas is No. 1 and Wynnewood is fourth.
