SPIRO–William “Bill” McWhirter, 86, of Spiro passed away on Dec. 28, 2014 in Talihina. He was born April 12, 1928 in Oklahoma City, was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart.
Funeral services are at noon Wednesday at Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, William Dan McWhirter.
He is survived by three daughters, Sheri Newby and husband, Sam of Pocola, Marilyn Tuttle and husband, Stan of Arkoma and Nancy Arcuri of Spiro; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
