LeFlore’s boys pulled off the first upset of the 2015 LeFlore County Tournament with a 47-41 win over third-seeded Whitesboro while the Spiro boys narrowly avoided an upset on Tuesday.
The semifinals are now set. On Thursday, it’s the boys with Talihina taking on Poteau at 7:10 p.m. and Spiro hooking up with LeFlore at 8:30 p.m. The girls’ semifinals are Friday with Heavener playing Howe at 7:10 p.m. and Arkoma and Spiro squaring off at 8:30 p.m.
All the semifinals are at Spiro.
In a matchup of two of the top Class B teams in southeastern Oklahoma, sixth-seeded LeFlore became the only non-top four seed to reach the semifinals with the win over Whitesboro.
Three-time defending champion Spiro had to rally late and benefit from three misses in a 28-26 win over Heavener.
Poteau’s boys outlasted Howe, 47-46, while top-seed Talihina cruised into the semifinals with a 64-39 victory over Talihina.
In the girls’ bracket, top-seeded Howe rolled over Wister 74-26 while Heavener’s girls came from behind to edge LeFlore, 46-43.
Arkoma struggled at times, but still advanced with a 44-35 win over Pocola and Spiro’s girls came from behind to down Poteau, 66-57.
All of Wednesday’s games are in the consolation bracket. Starting Thursday, all games move to Spiro.
