POTEAU–The LeFlore County Medical Reserve Corps Unit is sponsoring a free psychological first aid training.
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is the “acute intervention of choice” when responding to the psychosocial needs of children, adults and families affected by disaster and terrorism.
Recently developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from other individuals involved in coordinating and participating in disaster response, PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.
The free training will be held April 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Patrick Lynch Public Library located at 206 S. McKenna Ave. in Poteau. Lunch will be on your own from noon to 1 p.m.
There is no fee to register, but since there is limited seating you are encouraged to register soon.
Continuing education credit will be provided for R.N.’s, CLEET and mental health professionals, Including one hour of ethics.
